In addition, webmaster Dave Johnston has spent the last two weeks working to correct an oversight here at PigBoats. We have never had a page commemorating the "Father of the Modern Submarine", John Philip Holland. We now have a whole new page that gives a detailed overview of the famous inventor, outlining his efforts to develop submarine technology, and providing details of the boats that he built that were not accepted into the U.S. Navy. Please take a moment to read about this great man and his paradigm shifting work.

We have also added some new information to the Submarine Classes page. This new information will help round out understanding of the different tactical and strategic roles that submarines of the pigboat era fulfilled.

We have just completed a mini update to several pages. First is a rewrite of the Photo Features page for Julian K. Morrison. We added new information that rounds out the story of this amazing man. Second is a revised Submarine Specifications page. It has been updated with new information from the monumental book by Lyle Cummins: Diesels for the First Stealth Weapon: Submarine Power 1902-1945. Third is a rewrite of the Photo Features page on CAPT Donald C. Bingham, adding links to some of his other commands and duty stations, and a link to a Bingham oral history monograph detailing life on the early pigboats. That document was graciously sent to this site by naval historian Ryan C. Walker. Thank you Ryan for this glimpse into life on the pigboats!
