USS Marlin (SS-205)

Marlin shown backing out of her slip at Submarine Base New London, CT., summer 1942. Details of the uniquely shaped conning tower fairwater and her 3"/50 caliber deck gun can be seen. The open hatch on the last step of the fairwater leads to the after battery compartment/crew's mess, and the open hatch on the aft deck leads to the engine room. Unlike her sister Mackerel, Marlin has a very minimal periscope shears structure. There are four O-class submarines in the background.

Marlin underway in the Thames River, CT., summer 1942. This shot is looking down from the U.S. Route 1 Bridge (now called the Gold Star Memorial Bridge). It gives a good view of the aft end of the fairwater and the bridge.

In this dramatic screenshot from the 20th Century Fox production of Crash Dive, star Tyrone Power can be seen in the raft (middle) returning to Marlin after a mission. The Mk 6 gun has been trained to starboard and is manned. The sailor on the left is passing another round to the loader. The submarine is deliberately sitting low in the water to facilitate the return of the men in the raft. This scene was filmed on a calm Long Island Sound in the summer of 1942.
