The launch of Pickerel, July 7, 1936 at Electric Boat Co., Groton, CT. The destroyer USS Fox (DD-234) is in the background. The boat's sponsor was Miss Evelyn Standley, daughter of Rear Admiral William Standley, acting Secretary of the Navy, who, along with his wife, attended the launching along with 4000 other guests.

Two more nice photos of Pickerel on her trials in Block Island Sound in the Atlantic, south of Connecticut/Rhode Island, spring of 1937. She is equipped with the 3"/50 caliber Mk 7 Mod 19 gun mount on her aft deck, and a hook-shaped mount for a detachable water cooled M2 .50 caliber machine gun on the forward deck. There isn't any exhaust from her engine overboards, indicating that she is maneuvering on the battery. The ship's bell is still mounted on the forward edge of the conning tower fairwater, indicating that this is a staged photo. The bell would have normally been taken below prior to diving.
