<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color:#00008B">Another update this week, as I will be out of town in Washington, DC giving a presentation on The Dorado Project at the Naval History & Heritage Command. Over the last two weeks we were gifted with a group of photos from historian and master model maker Randy Biddle, showcasing his USS Grampus (aka A-3) model. Randy also contributed an excellent article he wrote in 1981 concerning the history of the Grampus. [[Biddle, Randle M.|'''See that article at this link''']]. In addition, Robert Porterfield sent us a very interesting oral history concerning the career of Harry Hoffman, a crewman from the USS N-1 in WW I. Bob compiled the history from a series of letters that Harry sent home. It is a fascinating first-person look into life on one of the early pigboats. <div style="text-align: justified;"><span style="color:#00008B">We have spent the last two weeks working on a whole new feature! PigBoats.COM now has two new informational pages that covers the submarine's primary weapon, the torpedo. One page covers background information and specifications of the torpedoes used during the Pigboat era, and the second page has detailed information on each weapon along with photos. The specifications page can be accessed [[Torpedoes|'''at this link''']] or through the link in the Navigation box on the left. The photos page can be accessed through specific links in the specifications table. Enjoy! As always, if you have questions or comments please let us know.

Another update this week, as I will be out of town in Washington, DC giving a presentation on The Dorado Project at the Naval History & Heritage Command. Over the last two weeks we were gifted with a group of photos from historian and master model maker Randy Biddle, showcasing his USS Grampus (aka A-3) model. Randy also contributed an excellent article he wrote in 1981 concerning the history of the Grampus. See that article at this link. An R-boat update today! We are also working with two other historians who will be contributing research articles on submarine engines and an oral history from a crewmember of N-1. Those should be coming over the next several weeks. Check back often!

Fellow historian and researcher Darryl Baker contributed over 13 photographs and newspaper clippings that highlighted the shift in submarine operations in Hawaii in late 1915 following the F-4 disaster. The photo sets noted above will highlight the coming of the K-class boats and the return of the remaining F-class boats to California. Darryl also contributed a series of newspaper clippings that give contemporary accounts of this major shift in Pacific Fleet submarine operations. These photos all come courtesy of the Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum. Please take the time to visit their site.

We have just completed a weeks long effort to introduce two new pages that cover guns used on submarines! In a format similar to our torpedoes page, the first page is at this link and contains an introduction, notes, and data tables for guns used on U.S. submarines of the pigboat era. The follow-on page can be found here. It contains background historical information on each gun type, including pictures of the guns and mounts and how they were installed on our submarines. There is also a permanent link in the Navigation box on the left of each page. Please give both pages a good read through. We have put an effort into making the information readable and digestible, without getting bogged down in minutiae. If you have any comments or have additional information to add, please contact us here: webmaster@pigboats.com. Enjoy!

On another note, we would like to take a moment to remember our brave shipmates onboard the USS Thresher (SSN-593) who lost their lives 62 years ago today. Rest in peace shipmates. You are not forgotten.
