Lieutenant Commander Frank Jack Fletcher retired from the navy as a Full Admiral. He was in positions of command at the Battle of the Coral Sea; Midway, replacing Bull Halsey who was in the hospital; the landings at Guadalcanal, and the Battle of the Eastern Solomons.
