This is an aggregate of 25 years of going though old newspapers and running across the details of Navy officers going to and coming from assignments. Papers used to have sections where military postings of officers were noted in the "Society Pages" of newspapers. The men listed here are mainly those in Commanding Officer billets but a number are lower in the submarine's command structure; Executive Officers, 1st Lieutenant/Engineering Officer etc. Some are Warrant Officers noted by rankings such as "Gunner" or "Machinist" and at this time in the Navy Chief Petty Officers were held higher since there were fewer of these men in service.
This list was first intended, by me, to be nothing more than an aid for historical research in the development of the webpage and in fleshing out the narratives being created as captions for the photos being presented. That is why there is no set format as to how the information has been presented. It is taken via copy/paste from the PDF files and placed into a single document I could search. It always helped to know who was in command at a certain time and watch the men's movement from vessel to vessel. That is also why, since this was for my own use, the newspapers this info was taken from is not included. Needless to say this came from dozens of papers all over the country. Sometimes fellow researchers contributed their data to inquiries by me, I have given them credit.
This list should be used in conjunction with the Wolfgang Hechler's [[Commanding Officers of U.S. Submarines|'''Commanding Officer Database''']], and it should help to round out these men's careers. It may cover some movements that Wolfgang's database does not.
Note that in most cases this information was copied verbatim from the paper, thus format, spelling, and grammatical errors may be present. To quickly find a particular officer or submarine, use the ctrl-F function and type in the name.
Hope you can find this useful.<br>

Officers Assigned to Submarines
This list should be used in conjunction with the Wolfgang Hechler's Commanding Officer Database, and it should help to round out these men's careers. It may cover some movements that Wolfgang's database does not.
Note that in most cases this information was copied verbatim from the paper, thus format, spelling, and grammatical errors may be present. To quickly find a particular officer or submarine, use the ctrl-F function and type in the name.
Hope you can find this useful.
