S-6 collision

From PigBoats.COM

S-6 is shown here entering harbor after her collision with damage to her periscopes and shears. The harbor is most likely Subic Bay, Philippines based on the background. Date is unknown but is between 1922-1924. S-6 is maneuvering to moor alongside her Division 12 and 18 shipmates.

In the background are numerous ships. On the left is a four stack destroyer, in the middle is the gunboat USS Sacramento (PG-19), and on the right is another four stack destroyer.

Damage to the S-6 seen after returning to port. Starboard side view of damage. In the center of the photo is Charles J. Townsend standing on the bridge. To the left in the photo and bent aft is what is left of the telescoping radio mast. It should look like the raised mast seen behind the damaged periscope fairing. On the right side can be seen the stub of what is left of the forward periscope.

Another view of the damaged area from starboard. The sub in the background is the USS S-8 (SS-113). It gives a good idea of what the damaged area should look like.

Another view from starboard aft. At least 6-7 weeks of work laid ahead to fix this and get the boat back out to sea. There are several other unidentified S-boats and other ships in the background.
