The Honolulu Harbor Lighthouse on Sand Island was an omnipresent fixture of maritime life around Oahu for 24 years. William Henry Delamain lost his life along with three others when the submarine H-1 (SS-28) grounded off Santa Margarita Island, Mexico March 12, 1920. He was washed overboard and drowned.
